Bangladeshi Expats in Brunei Contribute 25 Lakh to CA’s Relief Fund

On behalf of the Bangladesh Business Community-Brunei, an organization of Bangladeshi businessmen in Brunei, the chief advisor of the interim government received a donation of 27,000 Singapore dollars (equivalent to 25 lakh rupees) for Muhammad Yunus’ relief fund. The organization handed over the bank draft at the Secretariat office last Saturday around 6 p.m.

Deputy Secretary Sarwar Alam of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment accepted the donation on behalf of the interim government. Present during the handover were members of the organization, including Hasanur Islam, Md. Altab Hossain, Haji Baker Uddin, and Md. Haytas Uddin.

The Bangladesh Business Community-Brunei, which consists of 73 business establishments, is one of the largest organizations of expatriate Bangladeshis in the country. The organization became aware of the devastating impact of the floods in various districts of Bangladesh, including Feni, Noakhali, and Comilla, and decided to form a relief fund. A total of 27,000 Singapore dollars was collected to aid the flood victims. Four representatives of the organization traveled to Bangladesh to deliver the donation directly to the Chief Advisor’s Relief and Welfare Fund.

The leaders of the Bangladesh Business Community expressed deep concern over the severe losses faced by the people in the flood-affected areas. They emphasized that, in this time of calamity, expatriate Bangladeshis feel a strong sense of responsibility to support their fellow countrymen. Following the decision of the executive committee, funds were collected and sent to the organization’s office to aid the relief efforts. The leaders also pledged their continued support to the interim government and the people of Bangladesh in any future disasters.

During the donation handover, Asif Nazrul, the advisor to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, held a brief discussion with the leaders of the business community in Brunei. They raised various issues, including the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers in Brunei, as well as the challenges faced by expatriates and business owners. The advisor attentively listened to their concerns and, on behalf of the interim government, thanked the organization for their generous contribution to the flood victims.

One of the members, Hasanur Islam, stated, “On behalf of the organization, we will always stand by our country in times of disaster, such as this flood.”
